Our Case

C.I.S.S

In the United Kingdom, African women struggle so much as a result of language barriers, gender and race discrimination, and the lack of opportunities resulting thereof. This affects their stress levels and predisposes them to the possibility of getting cancer. The lack of care and the resultant emotional turmoil of sufferers and survivors of cancer has led to the founding of Cancer Impact Support Services.

The story by our founder, Chizara Phillips, gives a typical picture of BAME women and cancer. Chizara was diagnosed with grade 3 breast cancer in 2015. She experienced a lot of emotions that included anger, fear and the feeling she had lost her identity during and after the treatment. She also struggled both physically and mentally. She noticed the impact cancer treatment like chemotherapy did on her physical and mental well-being and how the lack of awareness of cancer impacted on her, especially the discrimination, exclusion and stigma most African communities suffering through being sick.

We at CISS therefore understand how important to support people who are going through the same experience.
